Raiders HC Pete Carroll addresses Maxx Crosby situation
In the days leading up to Sunday’s game against the New York Giants, the Las Vegas Raiders chose to shut down star pass rusher Maxx Crosby for the rest of the season.
The decision appears to have come with some disagreement from the Pro Bowler, as he informed head coach Pete Carroll that he wanted to leave the team’s facility after being informed of the move.
“He knows that he’s banged up, so he’s talking about, ‘I’d like to get out of here.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, get out of here.’ So he took off,” Carroll said via ESPN. “… This didn’t just spring on him. We’ve been talking about it, and it was exactly what you would think he would do and he should do. I agree with him 1,000 percent on how he responded, and I [would have] responded the same way.”
Crosby had been working through a nagging knee injury that occurred in the 31-0 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7. Despite that, he still performed at a high level, finishing with 10 sacks and a career-high 28 tackles for a loss that earned him his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl selection.

Crosby’s response to the move shouldn’t come with much surprise, as he stated publicly that he didn’t care about where the team finished in next year’s draft order.
This is clearly a situation to watch as Crosby’s long-term future in Las Vegas could become a prominent discussion. Time will tell what will unfold with the Raiders in the coming months.
