Raiders should trade anything for Russell Wilson

The Las Vegas Raiders should call the Seattle Seahawks and offer almost anything to land quarterback Russell Wilson.

No playoff wins since 2002. That’s enough to make a huge move on its own.

The Las Vegas Raiders have been wandering through the desert for the better part of two decades. They’ve changed coaches, quarterbacks and cities over that span. In spite of that they have only made a single playoff appearance — in 2016 — and lost in the Wild Card round.

Derek Carr isn’t the main problem right now. However he’s also not likely to end the championship draught plaguing the Silver and Black. Carr has been with the Raiders for seven seasons since being drafted in the second round out of Fresno State. He has reached three Pro Bowls, but none since 2017. He has a career record of 47-63 but has thrown for at least 4,000 yards in each of the past three campaigns.

The point? He’s good, but not an ideal franchise quarterback. Russell Wilson is.

Wilson, 32, reportedly has the Raiders on his four-team list of teams he would be willing to waive his no-trade clause for. The other three are the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints. If the Seattle Seahawks ever decided to deal Wilson, the Raiders make the most sense as they’re the only team of the four in the AFC.

What would the cost be? It’s likely Wilson price tag would start with a minimum of two first-round picks if not three, along with some other combination of later picks and players. Seattle knows it has a Hall of Fame quarterback in his prime, locked up for years to come on a palatable deal. Trading him for any less would be malpractice by general manager John Schneider.

For Las Vegas, the allure of landing Wilson must be intoxicating. Not only has the team had no tangible success over the past 19 seasons, but the Raiders are also stuck in a division with Patrick Mahomes and the KansasCity Chiefs, who have reached the Super Bowl each of the last two years and are heavy favorites to win it all again in the 2021 season.

The Raiders have been waiting for a chance to level up. With Wilson’s interest anthem becoming known, Las Vegas should be pushing all-in, hoping to change its fortunes with one, massive deal.
