Rams, Aaron Donald agree to massive six-year contract extension
Following months of speculation, the Los Angeles Rams have finally come to terms on a new record-breaking extension with star defensive tackle Aaron Donald on Friday morning on a six-year, $135 million deal that has $87 million guaranteed, according to ESPN.
The Los Angeles Rams and defensive tackle Aaron Donald have agreed to a six-year deal, the team announced.
The deal is worth $135 million, including $87 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
There has been much chatter over the last several days that things have picked up on that front in discussions that would see a new contract be agreed upon prior to the start of the 2018 season. This deal now keeps Donald in a Rams uniform through the next seven years as he was previously in the fifth-year option of his rookie contract.
Through his first four seasons, Donald has established himself as arguably the best defensive player in the league as he has earned four Pro Bowl selections, three First-Team All-Pro nods, and an NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. Since entering the league, he has led all defensive tackles with 39.0 career sacks and nine forced fumbles.
Donald has established himself as the anchor of the Rams defense and could be the primary piece to the puzzle on that side of the ball in their effort in pushing forward to contend for a Super Bowl this upcoming season and well beyond that. This new deal also now puts him in line to be on the field for the season opener against the Oakland Raiders on Monday Night Football.
