Ravens secure the QB position by re-signing Robert Griffin III
Veteran quarterback Robert Griffin III got his chance to get back into the NFL last season as he was picked up by the Baltimore Ravens.
It appears that he will get to extend his stay in the NFL as he has worked out a two-year deal to return to the franchise, according to ESPN.
The Baltimore Ravens on Thursday agreed to a two-year deal with Robert Griffin III, who will become the top backup to Lamar Jackson and continue to be a valuable mentor to the new franchise quarterback.
Griffin will return as the primary backup role for second-year quarterback Lamar Jackson and help groom him in the maturation process to become the team’s franchise cornerstone. He has clearly fully embraced this role by agreeing to this deal that continues his NFL career.
Although he hasn’t been able to garner another chance to resurrect his career as a starting quarterback, this at least gives him the chance to stay in the league.
It has been a while since Griffin received that chance as he experienced it with the Cleveland Browns during what turned out to be a short tenure after he suffered a shoulder injury that essentially ended his 2016 season after five games.
He was out of the league for the 2017 season before latching onto the Ravens last summer. He stayed on as the third quarterback on the depth chart even as Jackson took over the starting role from Joe Flacco.
This deal will at least keep him in the fold over the next couple of years where he will play a key role as a mentor to Jackson.
