Seahawks pursuing Julio Jones makes sense for Seattle
If the Seattle Seahawks want to win the Super Bowl and make Russell Wilson happy, going after Julio Jones is a wise decision.

Last weekend, reports surfaced that the Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons were talking about a possible deal which would send the seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver to Seattle for draft pick compensation. Of course, it’s well known Jones is likely headed out of Atlanta before training camp. With that comes the speculation of which teams ends up landing the future first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Jones, 32, would immediately give Seattle the scariest trio of receivers in the league, joining a pair of 1,000-yard players in D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Factor in an improved offensive line with the addition of guard Gabe Jackson, the signing of tight end Gerald Everett and the continued presence of Wilson under center, and Seattle would pull ahead in the NFL’s toughest division, the NFC West.
In an offseason filled with talk about whether Wilson will be around for the short or long haul, adding Jones for this and the next two seasons should help keep him happy. While the Seahawks have done a poor job providing a quality offensive line over the years, Jackson does provide stability, and Jones gives him an elite weapon to help move his passing numbers towards that of Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes.

Looking at Seattle’s roster, it’s easily arguable it should focus on improving the defense instead of trying to get anther playmaker. However, the Seahawks would need general manager John Schneider to add a half-dozen players to the defense for that unit to become a top-five group. Conversely, the Seahawks getting Jones would immediately have them in the conversation for the NFL’s best offense.
For Seattle, getting past the likes of the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Rams and Arizona Cardinals in the NFC West is the first matter of business. Jones would certainly help said cause, and once in the playoffs, find a team who can guard Jones and Metcalf with Wilson at the controls.
The Seahawks still have obstacles ahead even if Jones is on the team, particularly because of the leaky defense, but he’d be one hell of an addition.
