Steelers star JuJu Smith-Schuster says team’s ‘chemistry is on point’
Following the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2018 campaign that saw them fall short of reaching the playoffs, they were shrouded by the drama around the situation involving unhappy star wide receiver Antonio Brown.
The Steelers have since moved on from him earlier this offseason sending him to the Oakland Raiders. This has cleared the way for third-year wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster to step into being the team’s top target in the passing game, which is something that he’s more than motivated to fulfill, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
“The chemistry is on point,” Smith-Schuster told reporters after Wednesday’s organized team activities session. “Everyone is on the same page. Everyone is communicating. There’s really no — how do you say? — drama in our locker room.”
Through his first two seasons in the league, Smith-Schuster has emerged as one of the top young wide receivers in the NFL. He is coming off a breakout second year where he earned his first Pro Bowl selection as he posted career highs across the board, where he was sixth in the league with 111 catches while being fifth with 1,426 receiving yards and tied for 16th with seven touchdowns.
Smith-Schuster has a chance to firmly grasp his role as the Steelers’ top receiving option for the long haul while making a strong case to earn a new lucrative deal past his rookie contract. This is also an opportunity to prove that he can perform at an elite level with Brown no longer in the mix drawing massive attention from opposing defenses.
Nonetheless, it’s clear that Smith-Schuster is up for the challenge in the 2019 campaign.
