Tom Brady asked NFL about playing again while Raiders co-owner
The Las Vegas Raiders are at the beginning of yet another rebuilding phase, with the storied NFL franchise undergoing drastic changes after a very disappointing 2025 campaign, which resulted in the team getting the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The consensus, as of now, is that the Raiders will bring in Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza as the new face of the franchise going forward. However, the team also wants a veteran quarterback to bring him along, which apparently might’ve been team co-owner Tom Brady, who asked the NFL whether it would be okay to play again while being an owner, which the league wasn’t fond of, via ESPN.
“I actually have inquired, and they don’t like that idea very much,” Brady told CNBC, which published an interview excerpt Thursday. “So I’m going to leave it at that.
“We explored a lot of different things, and I’m very happily retired. Let me just say that, too.”
Although Brady didn’t specifically say it, he was likely inquiring about playing for the team next season to help mentor Mendoza rather than thrusting the rookie in the fire right out of the gate, which might’ve been a smart move by Brady and company.

Brady recently played flag football, which seemed to get his juices flowing again.
“I loved being out there playing in the flag game,” Brady said. “I loved not getting hit. I’ve got a lot of really fun things I’m involved in.
“It’s never going to get old throwing passes to incredible athletes on the football field. But if anything, that game reconfirmed to me that I’m very happy in my retirement.”
With the Brady option off the table, it’ll be interesting to see who the Raiders bring in as a veteran quarterback.
