Tyrod Taylor preparing to be the starting Chargers QB
The Los Angeles Chargers are heading into a new era with the team moving into the SoFi Stadium. As well as that, it will have a new starting quarterback with Philip Rivers now with the Indianapolis Colts. That starter has yet to be determined by the team’s coaching staff. Although, it will likely be veteran journeyman Tyrod Taylor.
With Rivers leaving town, the Chargers decided to select a quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft. Justin Herbert is the promising young rookie quarterback, who could challenge Taylor for the starting gig, but Tyrod is moving forward with the mindset he’ll remain the starter, via Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.

“I figured that the Chargers would take a quarterback” in the NFL draft, Taylor said Friday, speaking with a group of reporters for the first time since the end of the 2019 season. “But that never necessarily changed my mindset or my attack to the year.”
Taylor is fully aware of the fact that Herbert is the future in Los Angeles at the quarterback position, but that doesn’t and has never stopped him from using the same starter mindset.
“I was drafted in the sixth round and even that day that I got drafted, I always had the mindset to prepare like a starter,” said Taylor, who is entering his 10th NFL season. “So, regardless of the circumstances, that’s how I stay mentally in it and that’s how I prepare myself mentally.”

It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out for the Chargers as they make the transition for the longtime face of the franchise in Rivers to Taylor with Herbert expected to be the eventual starter. Only time will tell as there could be some rough seasons ahead for Los Angeles.
