Patriots Win to Go 10-0, but Two More Receivers Injured
The New England Patriots defeated the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football 20-13, but may have lost another wide receiver. Danny Amendola hurt his knee during the game and his status is still unknown
When fellow wide receiver Brandon LaFell was asked following the game about Amendola, LaFell answered that he saw his teammate and he looked to be in good spirits and he and the team are hoping it is nothing major.
Amendola’s injury, which was announced by the team as his knee, took place near the end of the third quarter on a 6-yard touchdown run by James White.
He was coming from the left side of the offensive line to block, made no contact with any other player but started limping.
Amendola did return following the next drive by Buffalo to return a punt but started to hobble again as he allowed the ball to roll away.
For the rest of the game he remained on the sideline seated on New England’s bench and at one point, he talked with his head coach Bill Belichick.
LaFell said he and his teammates had hoped Amendola would be able to shake the problem off quickly and get back to playing but that was not the case.
When reporters came into the New England locker room following the game, Amendola was already gone but his teammates had his injury on their minds, but not just his injury.
Aaron Dobson another wide receiver for the Patriots left the game during the second quarter after hurting his ankle and did not return.
With the two receivers sidelined from late in the third quarter until the end of the game, New England had to adjust offensively by running more packages with multiple tight ends as only LaFell was available with Chris Harper an undrafted rookie.
Keshawn Martin was out for his fifth consecutive game with an injured hamstring, but could be available this weekend.
If Amendola is lost for any length of time, it will be a big blow to the Patriots, who lost their No. 1 receiver Julian Edelman for the next month or longer and have Dion Lewis a top running back out for the rest of the season.
Amendola caught 9 passes taking the spot of Edelman before going down hurt.
The Pats are now 10-0, but if they continue to lose players, keeping a perfect record will be much harder to do each week.
