Raiders QB Derek Carr Won’t Require Surgery On Injured Finger
The Oakland Raiders may be on the verge of finally turning things after more than a decade of disappointment. The storied NFL franchise seems to have found their quarterback of the future in Derek Carr along with potentially the next coming of Tim Brown in rookie Amari Cooper, but Carr suffered an injury this week that had many concerned.
Carr injured his ring finger and many believed he’d have surgery. The surgery would keep Carr out a considerable amount of time and would definitely impact the start of the 2015 NFL season for the Raiders.
Fortunately for the Raiders, Carr will not have to undergo surgery, via ESPN:
Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr won’t require surgery on his injured ring finger, his agent said Wednesday.
“It’s a very minor situation,” agent Tim Younger told the San Francisco Chronicle. “I think he’s probably going to be throwing before the end of [the Raiders’ offseason workouts].”
With Carr avoiding surgery, the franchise can breathe a sigh of relief and continue the optimism that appears to be spreading in Oakland about the upcoming season. The Raiders aren’t expected to be playoff contenders or a team that can compete in the AFC West division, but Oakland is definitely on the right track with three young players leading the way.
Khalil Mack, Cooper, Carr, and even running back Lativius Murray are a solid young core of talented players that can propel this team into a promising future. The Raiders still have a ways to go in order to get recognition as a legitimate threat in the near future, but they’ve made all the right moves and could turn heads next season.
