Saquon Barkley: I’m Not Making Enough Plays
New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley has dismissed the notion that his injuries are affecting his form.
In 2018, Saquon Barkley had 1,307 rushing yards, 11 touchdowns and 721 receiving yards (four receiving TDs).
He has so far failed to live up to that in his second year, as teams have wised up to his threat. As well as that, the Giants have struggled this season, and are currently 2 – 8.Â
Many people, including second year coach Pat Shurmur, are willing to cut Saquon Barkley some slack. Barkley, though, thinks that to talk about injuries is ‘making excuses’.

“The opportunities, I just have to take advantage of the opportunities I get,” Barkley said.Â
“But to say I’m not healthy and this and that, those are just excuses. Everybody is banged up.
“Everyone is going through something. I’m not going to let that be an excuse for why I’m not having a successful season. The reason why I’m not having a successful season is because I’m not making enough plays for my team. And that’s just it.”
Given that the Giants are not going to make the playoffs this year, it might make sense to rest Barkley. There is nothing left to play for this season apart from pride.

However, pride is worth it for Barkley, and he was unequivocal about continuing to play as long as he’s able.
“The mindset of sitting me out and resting me for the rest of the season is beyond me,” Barkley said, via ESPN.Â
“I do not agree with it. It won’t happen. I’m going to keep going until I can’t go no more. That’s the player I am and I’m going to do it for my teammates.”
