Tavon Young Could Miss Entire 2019 Season
Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tavon Young could miss the entire 2019 season with a neck injury, according to reports.Â
Ravens coach John Harbaugh confirmed the news after Baltimore’s Thursday night preseason win, which Tavon Young didn’t feature in. It appears Tavon Young has an bigger problem than the Ravens initially realized.Â
The 25 year old has not practiced since Sunday. He signed a contract extension through 2022 in February. He missed the entire 2017 season with a torn ACL after being drafted out of Temple in 2016.
“Tavon [Young] has a more serious issue than we thought. He has a neck issue,” Harbaugh said.
“The doctors can explain it but it’s a disc issue so that’s a serious injury. He could be out for the remainder of the season. We’ll know soon but it doesn’t look good for Tavon.”

In total, Young has started 17 out of 31 games played for the Baltimore Ravens. He has three interceptions, four fumble recoveries and two defensive touchdowns.
The good news is that he might not necessarily be out for the whole season. There is an option for surgery, which would better determine his timeframe for return.
“There is an outside chance that you’d opt to try to see if it’ll heal. But I don’t think we’re recommending that right now,” Harbaugh said.Â
“If he gets the procedure done, he’ll be fine and good to go. That’s probably the best thing to do.”

The Ravens will have to dip into their substantial secondary to cover for Young’s absence. Brandon Carr and Cyrus Jones are in good positions to takeover his minutes on the field.Â
Baltimore will have to hope that Lamar Jackson’s running is so potent that their defense is less of a factor this year.
