Tiger Woods Favored to Win Second Straight Major
Tiger Woods appears to be back to his best. After last year, his stock has risen to previous levels.
A new rotation for golf’s majors begins this season as the PGA Championship is now the second major to be played and will get underway on May 16 from Bethpage Black Golf Course, in Farmingdale, New York.
Odds makers have Tigers Woods as the favorite to win a second consecutive major. Woods is currently at 7 to 1 on several sportsbooks. He is followed by Dustin Johnson at 9 to 1, Rory McIlroy at 10 to 1 and Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka each at 12 to 1 to round out the top 5 best odds.
The next five with the best odds include Francesco Molinari and Justin Rose at 16 to 1 and Bryson DeChambeau, Rickie Fowler and Jon Rahm each at 20 to 1.
The PGA Championship will be played during May for the first time since 1949. Previously, the event has been the last of the four majors each season and played in August. This year’s tournament is the 101st edition and was first played in 1916.
This is the first time that Bethpage Black will host the PGA Championship but two U.S. Opens (2002 and 2009) have been played at the course. The course is very tough and rewards the players who commit the fewest mistakes. Bethpage Black is 7,426 yards in length and a par 70.
The field for the PGA Championship will include all former champions of the event. As well as that, it will inclide the last five winners of the Masters, the five previous champions of the U.S. Open, the last five Open Championship winners and the last three winners of the Players Championship.
Koepka returns as the defending champion of the event after winning in 2018 at Bellerive Golf Course. Tiger Woods was the runner up of last year’s tournament. He enters this year’s event on a wave of momentum after winning his first major since 2008 last month at the Masters.
