Warriors, Bucks Top NBA’s ATS Standings
In addition to sporting the best record in the National Basketball Association, the Golden State Warriors are also ranked No. 1 when it comes to covering the spread.
The Warriors (16-7-0 ATS) have beaten the spread in 16 of 23 games so far this season, making Steve Kerr’s side the bookies’ least favorite team taking to the hardwood.
The Warriors are also one of the best road teams against the spread, having compiled a 10-4-0 ATS record away from Oracle Arena. Only the Indiana Pacers (9-3-0 ATS) and Sacramento Kings (8-2-1 ATS) can boast superior road records.
Second in the overall ATS standings, and top of the Eastern Conference, are the surprising Milwaukee Bucks (17-8-0 ATS).
Having recorded a winning record through 25 games, last year’s cellar dwellers have gone on to cover the spread more than any other side this season, something bettors should keep in mind as the season moves forward.
The Bucks have been particularly fierce at home, going 8-3-0 ATS. Only the Oklahoma City Thunder (10-2-0 ATS) sports a better home record against the spread.
The Toronto Raptors (15-10-0 ATS) – the Eastern Conference’s best team straight up – sits at No. 3 in the ATS standings, thanks in part to a 7-3-0 ATS record away from home.
The Orlando Magic (16-11-0 ATS) prove that not everything in Central Florida is a disaster in waiting. While poor on the court, the Magic is actually one of the better teams against the spread this season.
The list of top five teams against the spread is rounded out by the Atlanta Hawks (14-10-0 ATS), a team that is soaring high in the lackluster Eastern Conference.
At the other end of the spectrum, the Detroit Pistons (8-17-0 ATS) are the league’s worst team against the spread, both overall and at home. Stan Van Gundy’s side is just 3-10-0 ATS when playing at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
The Minnesota Timberwolves (8-14-1 ATS) have seen their on-court woes transfer to the spread, as have the New York Knicks (10-16-0 ATS) and Charlotte Hornets (9-13-2 ATS).
The Cleveland Cavaliers (9-14-0 ATS) and Miami Heat (10-13-1 ATS) are perhaps the highest profile of the teams struggling against the spread the season. With both teams transitioning to their new personnel, neither has been able to find solid footing on the betting lines, making each a risky prospect for bettors.
Of the league’s 30 teams, just 12 have a winning record against the spread. That number falls to 11 for teams playing at home.
Somewhat surprisingly, 17 teams are above .500 against the spread when playing on the road.
