Will Levis Bemoans ‘Boneheaded Play’ In Week 1 Loss
Quarterback Will Levis says he and the Titans offense are to blame for Tennessee’s Week 1 loss against the Bears.
The Titans were 17 – 0 ahead at one point, but went on to lose 24-17 in Chicago. Will Levis was central to the moment the game turned around, in the middle of the fourth quarter.
Under pressure on a third-and-6 with the score 17-16, Will Levis tried to ‘dirt it’. The play resulted in a Tyrique Stevenson touchdown and the Titans wouldn’t score again.
“Bonehead play,” said Will Levis. “Just recency bias from getting away with it the last time I did in the game.”

While the quarterback faltered in a crucial moment, that doesn’t entirely explain Chicago’s comeback win. The Titans defense was steadfast, limiting the Bears to 148 yards.
In fact, the Bears are the third team in the last 20 years to claw back a 17 point deficit without scoring an offensive touchdown. To explain that, we need to look at Tennessee’s offense, which just couldn’t remain on the field.
They didn’t generate a first down on 6 of their 13 possessions and had less than two on 11 drives.
Levis was sacked three times and took two interceptions for a 52.5 passer rating, the lowest of his career. He acknowledges the offense has to perform better with their defense playing so well.

“Like for us to have the punt block, the interception, the fumble, the big kick return to get them in field goal range. Our defense did a heck of a job all day not letting them drive the ball. We got to come out with a W and make sure we do our part on offense. So as long as our defense plays like that we can be really, really good team.”
