Packers intend to retire Aaron Rodgers’ No. 12 ‘at the appropriate time’
Star quarterback Aaron Rodgers is preparing to play his first season with the New York Jets, but that hasn’t kept the Green Bay Packers from talking about him.
Rodgers spent his first 18 seasons with the Packers, where he put together a sure-fire first-ballot Hall of Fame career. Team president Mark Murphy unsurprisingly voiced that the franchise will one day retire his No. 12 jersey.

“I want to thank Aaron Rodgers for all he did in his remarkable 18-year career,” Murphy said to a few tempered boos via ESPN. “No, Aaron was a great player for us for 18 years. He will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. We will bring him back and retire his number at the appropriate time.”
Rodgers isn’t in the best of graces with Packers fans, but his resume with the organization is undeniable. He spent his tenure leading the franchise to sustained success while earning four regular-season MVPs and led the team to a Super Bowl win.
He left an irreplaceable mark on Green Bay that will earn him the prestigious honor of having his jersey retired. Rodgers is recognized as one of the game’s greatest quarterbacks, and having his number retired is a well-deserved designation.

The angered sentiment from fans will cool down like it did for Hall of Famer Brett Favre. It will just take time to create enough distance to lessen the negative emotions toward him for how his tenure ended in Green Bay.
