Panthers decide to part ways with head coach Frank Reich
The Carolina Panthers have decided to part ways with head coach Frank Reich 11 games into his first year.
The Panthers struggled mightily under Reich, holding an NFL-worst 1-10 record, which includes 0-6 on the road. He is the first NFL head coach to be let go in back-to-back seasons after being fired from the Indianapolis Colts last year.
“I met with Coach Reich this morning and informed him that he will not continue as head coach of the Carolina Panthers,” Tepper said in a statement. “I want to thank Frank for his dedication and service, and we wish him well.”

The Panthers hoped that Reich would help elevate the franchise through the offense behind rookie quarterback Bryce Young. Instead, Young has struggled to find his footing in his first NFL season with the offense scoring 15 or fewer points over the last five straight weeks.
In 10 games, Young has recorded 1,877 passing yards, nine touchdown passes, eight interceptions, and holds a 74.9 passer rating. He ranks 29th with a 32.0 total quarterback rating and has been sacked 40 times, which is tied for fifth most through a player’s first 10 games.
Carolina is moving toward its sixth straight season missing the playoffs, including the fifth consecutive campaign recording double-digit losses.

The Panthers are a rebuilding franchise that remains far removed from postseason contention. Much of that will start with putting together a more competitive roster that can contend for the playoffs.
All that will start with finding the next head coach who will finally push the franchise back into relevancy.
