49ers lose star WR Brandon Aiyuk to season-ending knee injury
The San Francisco 49ers headed into Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs with the intention of avenging their loss in the Super Bowl to Patrick Mahomes and company, who came out on top against Kyle Shanahan’s squad in overtime at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, back in February.
Along with losing this Super Bowl rematch and being outplayed for the majority of the contest against the only undefeated in the NFL after Week 7, the 49ers lost star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to a knee injury.

According to Nick Wagoner of ESPN, Aiyuk will miss the rest of the 2024 NFL season after tearing his ACL and MCL in the loss against the Chiefs.
Aiyuk tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee, which will require surgery and end his 2024 season after just seven games, coach Kyle Shanahan announced Monday.
As if losing Aiyuk for the rest of the season wasn’t bad enough news for the 49ers, who have Super Bowl aspirations, fellow star wide receiver Deebo Samuel is in the hospital dealing with an illness via ESPN.
What’s more, the illness that limited receiver Deebo Samuel to four snaps against the Chiefs is technically a form of pneumonia, according to Shanahan. Samuel has some fluid buildup in his lungs and remains in a local hospital after checking in Sunday night.
Needless to say, the 49ers have an issue at the wide receiver position, even though they were able to get rookie wideout Ricky Pearsall on the field in Week 7.
