Falcons legend Julio Jones announces NFL retirement
After 13 NFL seasons, former Atlanta Falcons star wide receiver Julio Jones announced his retirement from football.
Jones took to the Squad app to express his appreciation for his time with the Atlanta Falcons, where he established himself as one of the game’s best wide receivers.
“I’m making this announcement today because of the city of Atlanta,” Jones said via ESPN. “Thank you, man. I appreciate y’all. It’s nothing but love. I’m doing this on 404 day. It was a hell of a ride. … This was for the city, man, I appreciate you all.”
Jones had a sure-fire Hall of Fame career that included seven Pro Bowl selections and two first-team All-Pro nods, as well as 914 receptions for 13,703 receiving yards and 66 touchdowns.
He led the NFL in receiving yards twice while setting the Falcons’ record with 848 catches and 12,896 receiving yards. Jones holds the NFL record with three games of at least 250 receiving yards and five straight seasons of at least 1,400 receiving yards.
During his prime, Jones was considered among the game’s best wide receivers. It includes his best campaign in 2015, where he recorded league-bests with 136 receptions for 1,871 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
