Super Bowl Preview: Broncos vs Seahawks

Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos are expected to be a contender.

Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos are expected to be champions.

It is Super Bowl Sunday and we have got a good one this year. The number one ranked offense in the NFL in the Denver Broncos will take on the NFL’s top rated defense in the Seattle Seahawks. Something has to give here.

Peyton Manning is attempting to become the first quarterback to win Super Bowls with different teams. He won one in 2006 with the Indianapolis Colts and will now try to win one with the Broncos. Had Santonio Holmes had bigger feet or if someone could have stopped James Harrison before he could take an interception 100 yards on the last play of the first half, then Kurt Warner would have accomplished the feat with the Arizona Cardinals a few years back. But instead the Pittsburgh Steelers won their sixth title in Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium and so Manning still has a chance to be the first.

This Super Bowl also features another of the young gun quarterbacks from the 2012 Draft. Russell Wilson is the second straight quarterback to take a team to the Super Bowl from that draft. Last year Colin Kaepernick took the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl. Had it not been for a great play by Seahawks corner Richard Sherman in the NFC Championship game, he would have gotten them back this year. Wilson was the quarterback least likely to succeed in that draft considering he was passed over by every time at least twice. But all he has done since he set foot in Seattle is win games. Can he beat one of the all time greatest to play the game on its biggest stage? One would think that is a bit much to ask, but Wilson is not one to count out.

This year, the Super Bowl has an interesting wrinkle it has never had before. It will be played in cold weather. Now, since both of these teams should be used to cold weather, that should not be a factor in the game. But one thing Met Life Stadium has that their stadiums may not is a stiff wind that makes it difficult to throw the ball. That should be an advantage for Seattle. Marshawn Lynch is a fine running back. But Knowshon Moreno also rushed for 1500 yards this season for the Broncos.

Bookmaker has the odds on the game:

Denver is -1.5 -110 and Seattle is +1.5 -110 ATS. Moneyline is Seattle +110 and Denver -130. Over/Under is 47 with over and under both -110.

We are going to go with the Broncos -1.5 -110 and the over -110. Manning has been in this game before and that is what should be the difference. Look for him to make the big play late to win the game for the Broncos. We also think the Seahawks will have to put points on the board to keep up with Denver. So bet big on the over -110.
