Cowboys Stirring Doubt In Doubters
For the last few season if there was one thing you could count on it was that the Dallas Cowboys would collapse at some point and blow any chance they have at a run at the Super Bowl. Often times the pressure fell on quarterback Tony Romo to get the job done and he has failed, sometimes spectacularly. However, we are seeing that this season could be different for the Cowboys after defeating the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football, 41-28.
Historically, it is about time for the Cowboys to begin their collapse. Romo is 11-15 in the month of December. However, Romo played wonderfully last night against the Bears. He connected on 21 of his 26 attempts and had three touchdowns and no interceptions. It is important to note, though, that the Bears’ secondary is terrible. Overall, they are the 26th ranked defense in the NFL. In other words, Romo’s good day is something we predicted.
What is more important is what Romo didn’t do and that’s everything. The win did not come down to Romo because it didn’t have to.
Romo did not have to scramble out of the pocket in order to extend plays. He was protected, reducing to the pressure on the quarterback.
The Cowboys offensive line is not only protecting Romo, but they are clearing the way for DeMarco Murray. Murray totaled 179 yards and also found pay dirt on one of his total 32 carries. He also was thrown the ball for nine receptions.
Establishing the run game and short-passing game has been key to Dallas’ success over the last few weeks. In fact, when Murray gets more carries the Cowboys win, and he doesn’t they seem to lose.
It is the perfect storm for Romo to silence his doubters. However, if he fails he may have no excuses.
On the other side of the football, the Bears were able to hang with the Cowboys in the first half, despite Matt Forte being held to just five yard on the ground, but Cowboys got away from the Bears in the third quarter due a lot of bad play calls. The Bears attempted to Rally back but the Cowboys kept up their pace, stamping out the Bears comeback attempt.
The Bears are in full meltdown mode. Sitting at 5-8 and with only three games left in the season, there is not much hope left for Chicago.
