Bears agree to Trade Brandon Marshall to Jets
One of the most tenuous relationships in the NFL has finally come to an end today, with the Chicago Bears agreeing to trade superstar wide receiver Brandon Marshall to the New York Jets.
Citing a “league sourceâ€, ESPN insider Adam Schefter broke the news, claiming that it is only a “pending physical†that is keeping the trade from becoming a certainty. Consideration on the Jets’ side is not yet confirmed, but many are citing compensation in the form of a “late-round draft pick†in exchange for the talented wideout.
Marshall’s career with the Bears was a polarising one, with his incredible on-field efforts having been recently soured by his vocal criticism of the team, coaching staff and front office.
What was looking like an overhaul in Chicago is turning into exactly that, with only Jay Cutler and Matt Forte appearing to be mainstays on an offense missing its “offensive mastermind†head coach Marc Trestman.
The Jets, meanwhile, are slowly assembling a wide receiver corps that looks more like a custom Madden roster than an actual NFL unit. Upon the completion of the trade on March 10 – the official start of the NFL year – the Jets will boast Marshall, Eric Decker and Percy Harvin.
If anything, the move should serve as further confirmation that the Jets are set on a first-round quarterback in this year’s draft. Such a combination of talent, skill and speed at wide receiver is not meant to guarantee a Super Bowl, but rather simplify the transition for a rookie running the ropes from college to the pro league.
The question is, will the Jets stay seated in sixth place to get the man they want? Let the speculation continue.
