Iowa @ Michigan Preview
Tonight we will get to see two ranked college basketball teams collide as the No. 21 Michigan Wolverines take on No. 10 Iowa.
The Wolverines are coming off a big upset victory of the ten No. 3 Wisconsin. The win came thanks to a late game surge, with the bulk of the work primarily handled by sophomore Nik Stauskas.
Staukas scored the last 11 of Michigan’s points on Saturday. The winning basket was an amazing crossover 3-pointer with 48 seconds left to play that gave his team the lead. He finished the game with 23 points.
Michigan will not get any breathing room and will need a similar performance from Staukas, as they will be looking for another upset win over Iowa.
Iowa is the only other Big Ten team that can match Michigan’s offensive performance. Michigan may lead the Big Ten with a 53.8 percent field goal shooting in conference games but the Hawkeyes rank first in the conference in points per game, averaging 86.8 points per game overall.
Michigan’s defense ranks among the best in the Big Ten and NCAA for that matter. They are particularly talented at stopping the 3-point attack as they have held teams to 34 percent from down town.
Iowa is also coming off a victory as they dominated Minnesota 94-73 on Sunday. They will carry that momentum into tonight’s game against Michigan, as they will be looking to avenge a 95-67 loss last year.
This is Iowa’s biggest challenge to date. This is the first time they have played a ranked team since cracking the top ten this season, and they are going to have to defeat Michigan in their house.
Despite Michigan not ranked quite as high as Iowa in the AP Poll, they are still the -3 point favorites to win this game over at Bovada. The game starts at 7 p.m. ET.
