Preview: MSU vs. Duke
Tonight features a primetime matchup between Michigan State and Duke that is sure to be entertaining. The No. 19 Spartans and No. 4 ranked Blue Devils will play at 7p.m. in Indianapolis at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse for the Champions Classic.
Michigan State, No. 19, is down two players with injuries and had a less than impressive season opener against Navy. This matchup against Duke is a great opportunity for the Spartans to silence the critics who are already throwing shades of doubt towards Michigan State’s chance to make it far in the playoffs.
Because Duke has a talented team and the Spartans are down some of their talented players, a key for Michigan State to be able to win this game is to slow it down. Mike Krzyzewski’s team is dominating offensively and would be ready to come out fast from the tip off. If Izzo and the Spartans are able to slow them down and take a big, early lead, they will control the momentum of the game.
Duke, No. 4, entered this season as heavy favorites to with the National Championship. They have already scored a combined 222 points in their first two games this season. They have an impressive 62.6% Â in shooting from the floor and 47.2% on three-pointers. Their outside shooting is key to winning games. Where Michigan State would be able to capitalize on the weakness of Duke is against the young freshman that are on the squad.
Michigan State has the chance to make an early statement tonight. Making a statement today could make all of the difference when its time for the selections for the playoffs.
