NCAA Championship Odds

We have whittled it down to four teams.

Wisconsin and UConn have a lot of momentum behind them, but popular opinion wants to see Kentucky take on Florida in the national championship game.  The marquee writes itself: “Florida’s seniors Vs. Kentucky’s freshmen.” Kentucky’s chance at redemption by beating the post-season’s No. 1 team.  It is a narrative that pulls in those casual sports fans that networks and NCAA love.

Things do no always happen in the most picturesque ways in sports, however.  Let’s turn to the sportsbooks to see who has the best odds of winning the national title.

All odds come courtesy of Bovada.

Connecticut +700

UConn has the worst odds out of the whole lot, but you can easily imagine how any of these teams could win, including UConn.

Connecticut upsetting Michigan State goes a long way in proving that anything can happen in the Final Four.  Many had Michigan State taking it all and those prediction were dashed by UConn.  That is one reason to buy into them if Shabazz Naiper, DeAndre Daniels and their potent defense wasn’t enough to already buy into the Huskies.

However, they will be taking on Florida.  Back in December the Huskies beat the Gators with buzzer beater by Naiper.  This should be a good sign. However, at the time Florida was struggling with injuries, so they barely beat a lesser Gator’s squad.

Wisconsin +325

Wisconsin may be the black sheep of the pack.  Uconn is the scrappy underdogs, Kentucky is the unlikely comeback story and Florida is the favorite. Leaving Wisconsin lost in the shuffle.

A word of warning, though, do not count out the Badgers’ big man Frank Kaminsky.  At 7 foot tall and a mean behind the arc shot, Kaminsky may be the hardest player to defend in the NCAA.

Unfortunately, they are going to clash with the Wildcats.

Kentucky has knocked out a previously defeated Wichita State, that other big team in Kentucky and Michigan.  Adding Wisconsin to that list is definitely in the realm of realism.

Kentucky +250

Kentucky has already taken care of Michigan, who had a similar reputation to the Wisconsin Badgers in terms of guarding, defense and offense.

Kentucky is a young and talented team. Many have predicted that the Wildcat starters will all be future NBA stars, and it is hard to count out this team.

There is one down side to this team, though. They are young and there inexperience shows in their inconsistency.  While they have been playing well thus far in the tournament, their regular season was like a roller coaster ride, and if you are going to bet on the Wildcats, the fact that they may relapse has to be in the back of your mind.

Florida -110

If the Gators lose it will be an upset, regardless of who they lose to.  They are the clear favorites to walk away with the national title.

The Gators may have lost to UConn back in December, but since then Florida has won 30 straight games.  The Huskies cannot lay claim to such a record, as they have lost eight games since that meeting.

Florida is the full package in terms of defense and offense.  Period.  And if they lose it is going to be a big deal.

It is hard to bet against Florida.  It seems that this team of seniors are poised for the national title, but anything can happen.
