NFL Rumors: Seattle Seahawks To Part Ways With Marshawn Lynch
For the first time in three years, the Seattle Seahawks will not be returning to the Super Bowl in February. The Carolina Panthers proved to be too much to handle in the NFC Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs and as a result, the Seahawks will go back to the drawing board to figure out how to bounce back next season.
One move the Seahawks front office may make during the NFL offseason is parting ways with veteran running back Marshawn Lynch. Although Lynch has been a major part of the team’s success over the past few years, all signs appear to be pointing to the 29-year-old heading elsewhere, according to ESPN’s John Clayton:
“One hundred percent, there is no way I can see (him back) with his salary,” Clayton said on “Brock and Salk” Monday. “Yeah, if he would take a pay cut, massive pay cut, then he can come back, but you know that’s not gonna happen. So no this has been it.”
Lynch dealt with some injury issues this season resulting in the veteran playing in only seven games during the regular season. In the seven games played for the Seahawks, Lynch scored three rushing touchdowns while racking up 417 yards on the ground on 111 carries.
One potential destination for Lynch is with his hometown Oakland Raiders. The Raiders may have a promising up-and-comer in Latavius Murray, but bringing in Lynch may help bolster the running game that much more in Oakland.
At this point, nothing is set in stone. Lynch may be asked to take a considerable pay cut to stay in Seattle. If he declines, then he’ll likely be traded, or the Seahawks may attempt to trade him.
