Carson Wentz will start for Colts in Week 1 against Seahawks
Heading into the 2021 season, the Indianapolis Colts were concerned about former Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Wentz’s health.
Wentz underwent foot surgery that put his status for Week 1 into question, but his continued progression in his recovery left the window. Head coach Frank Reich voiced that the 28-year-old will play in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.
Wentz returned to the practice field only three weeks after surgery on his left foot. He addressed the situation earlier this week but credited his hard work toward getting him to this point.
“I know they had a very wide range of a timetable, and I knew that too,” Wentz said this week via ESPN. “I knew that, going in, a lot determined on how the surgery went and a lot of factors, but at the end of the day, I say God is good for getting me to this point.”
The Colts are hoping that Wentz can recapture the form that made him one of the league’s top young quarterbacks. Since his breakout 2017 campaign, he’s struggled to perform with consistency and nagging injuries.

Indianapolis is presenting him every opportunity to secure his spot as the team’s long-term answer under center. The Colts have constructed a roster that can become a legitimate playoff contender.
Wentz could be the missing piece that lifts the team forward to a deep playoff push. The Week 1 matchup against the Seahawks will provide a tough early test to see where his comfort level is playing in the Colts offense.
