Colts owner Jim Irsay reacts to Adam Vinatieri’s slump
The Indianapolis Colts were able to grab their first win of the season in Week 2 action by edging out the Tennessee Titans 19-17.
However, it nearly became a loss after veteran kicker Adam Vinatieri missed a pair of extra-point kicks in the contest. Following the game, team owner Jim Irsay voiced his support and concern for Vinatieri after yet another rough outing, according to Mike Wells of ESPN.

“Breaks my heart to see it because I know how hard [Vinatieri] works,” Colts owner Jim Irsay said outside the locker room after the game. “Of course it’s a concern. I can’t lie to you guys. Anyone would tell you it’s a concern. Adam, Coach [Frank Reich], [general manager] Chris [Ballard], me. Yeah, I mean, in this league, it’s professional football. We all have to produce.”
Prior to committing to play in the 2019 season, there was much chatter that Vinatieri could call it a career. Instead, he elected to return for yet another campaign while leaving the door open toward continuing beyond that point.

It hasn’t been easy for Vinatieri as he has struggled kicking through the first two games as he has now missed an extra point in three straight regular-season games that dates back to last season and four out of the last five contests overall. His struggles have continued to plague him as he missed seven kicks in his last three games overall, which includes the playoffs.
All of this reportedly led to Vinatieri to heavily consider retirement after the Week 2 win, but head coach Frank Reich was able to convince him to continue to play. Only time will tell how much longer the future Hall of Famer will last in the NFL.
