Cowboys preaches time and patience on contract extensions for stars
As the 2024 season quickly approaches, the dialogue around the Dallas Cowboys remains on the long-term future of Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons.
Even with that increased chatter around the franchise, the organization is asking for time and understanding with working through contract situations.
“We have a very unique situation,” executive vice president Stephen Jones said via ESPN. “We have a quarterback, who played at the top of his game last year, second in MVP voting, who can leave [after this season]. And then we’ve got two players who can’t leave … We could sign one of them and both of them — rightfully so — believe they should be the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league.”

“And totally respect that. So very difficult situations that we’re trying to work through with them. They want to win. They want to put a ring on their finger, and they understand the difficult situation we have.”
Of the three contract situations, Prescott sits as the most urgent. He is set for free agency next offseason as he’s playing in the fourth year of his $160 million deal.

He has already expressed a strong desire to remain in Dallas for the long haul. However, he acknowledges that playing elsewhere beyond 2024 is a realistic scenario.
Parson will be heading into the fifth year of his rookie contract next year if he doesn’t ink an extension. Meanwhile, Lamb is headed toward playing in the $17.99 million fifth year of his rookie contract this season.
The Cowboys still have time to hammer out new deals for their star talent, but the clock is ticking.
