Eagles GM Howie Roseman reveals why A.J. Brown wasn’t traded

After much speculation, the Philadelphia Eagles chose to keep star wide receiver A.J. Brown past Tuesday’s trade deadline.

General manager Howie Roseman stated that Brown holds too much value to the team to consider moving him seriously.

“I think that when you’re trying to be a great team, it’s hard to trade great players, and A.J. Brown is a great player,” Roseman said via ESPN. “He wears a ‘C’ for a reason. He’s an important part of this team, of this organization. He cares about winning, he cares about his teammates, and I think when you’re a team like ours that is looking forward to an opportunity to compete for a championship, you just don’t get rid of guys like that.”

There have been rumblings of growing frustration from Brown over his role within the offense as he’s averaged a career-low 56.4 receiving yards per game. All that led to chatter that the Eagles could move the 28-year-old before the trade deadline.

Brown remaining on the team speaks to their confidence that he can return to form as one of the game’s top wide receivers, given his production. He had shown that in each of his first three seasons in Philadelphia, he notched more than 1,000 receiving yards every year.

“I feel very lucky to have him on our team and excited about the second half of the season with him,” Roseman said.

The Eagles will need Brown to play a significant role if they hope to push toward repeating as Super Bowl champions.
