Jon Gruden helping Derek Carr with ‘learning curve’ with Saints
Since Derek Carr joined the New Orleans Saints, he’s experienced significant change.
Much of which centers on learning a new offensive system that has presented plenty of challenges. The Saints have brought in a familiar face for Carr, with former Raiders head coach Jon Gruden helping install the offensive game plan.

New Orleans is expected to run a similar system to the West Coast offense, which Carr ran throughout the bulk of his tenure under Gruden with Las Vegas.
Beyond that, there remains a learning curve that Carr is going through in the months before the 2023 season.
“It’s a new system, new words, [but] a lot of similarities to things that I grew up on and believe in,” Carr told NOLA.com via ESPN. “It’s still a learning curve, but not as big of a curve as it could be in a different system or a different offense.”
Carr will be the Saints’ central offensive piece that they hope can push them into playoff contention. The 32-year-old is hoping the change of scenery could lead to him experiencing sustained success.
He’s coming off posting career lows with 3,522 passing yards and a 60.8 percent completion rate. As well as that, he tied his career-worst for interceptions with 14.

Carr has remained one of the most consistent quarterbacks throughout his career. Although, hasn’t elevated his play toward being recognized as one of the game’s talents under center. The Saints need him to be the X-factor throwing the ball they haven’t had since Drew Brees.
The next few months will be vital in helping him effectively run the offense.
