Bears’ Justin Fields Explains Social Media Snub
As the Chicago Bears head into the offseason, questions remain around quarterback Justin Fields’ future.
The conversation ramped up after Fields chose to unfollow the Bears on Instagram, which led to speculation that a departure is likely ahead. However, Field cleared the air during a recent appearance on the “St. Brown Brothers” podcast.

“Why do people take social media so serious?” Fields said. “I still mess with the Bears, this and that. I’m just trying to take a little break. I unfollowed the Bears and the NFL. I’m not just trying to have football on my timeline.
“It’s something that I don’t want to see on my timeline. I’m about to go on vacation. I don’t want to see no football. And guess what? [The social media discourse is] either keep Fields, we want Fields. It’s either draft Caleb [Williams]. I’m tired of hearing the talk. I just want it to be over.”
It may be as simple as Fields not wanting to see any football-related posts on the social media platform, but the timing of it gives away to other notions.

At the same time, it’s also hard not to question the Ohio State product’s future in Chicago with the team owning the first pick in this year’s draft. Much of this has seen the conversation lean toward the franchise potentially taking a quarterback at the top spot.
Fields can deflect or attempt to change the narrative of the conversation, but the optics of the situation are hovering toward the Bears heading into another direction under center in 2024.
