NFL free agency 2019: 5 teams that should sign Michael Crabtree
The upcoming NFL free agency just got another player. On Monday, the Baltimore Ravens released wide receiver Michael Crabtree. Baltimore, which has a legion fo tough decisions to make before free agency, cut bait with the 31-year-old to save $4.66 million in 2019, the same amount of dead money it takes on.
So where should the veteran playmaker go next? Here are five landing spots that make ample sense in NFL free agency.
5. Pittsburgh Steelers
Odd to think that the Steelers actually need help on the outside, but here we are. While JuJu Smith-Schuster is an unquestioned superstar on the rise, Antonio Brown appears headed out of town. With Brown likely on the move, the Steelers have an opening for a second option in the passing game. While Crabtree hasn’t been able to top 700 yards in each of his last two seasons, he would be a nice compliment in this high-powered attack.

4. New York Jets
The Jets have to put some talent on the field for Sam Darnold to take advantage of during NFL free agency. New York continued to struggle putting up points in 2018, and with new head coach Adam Tase coming into the fold and a ton of money to play with, there’s no excuse for not being aggressive. Crabtree won’t cost more than a one-year deal, and even if the Jets have to overpay a little bit in the short term, that’s not an issue.
3. Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis makes sense on a few levels. For starters, Crabtree would be the second option to T.Y. Hilton, which is frankly where he should be in an offensive scheme at this juncture of his career. The Colts are also trying to move up in the AFC, hoping to catch the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs. While Crabtree doesn’t quite close the gulf between Indianapolis and those two powers, the move would certainly bring some punch to the passing game.

2. Denver Broncos
General manager John Elway should think long and hard about this. After trading Demaryius Thomas to the Houston Texans at the deadline, the Broncos watched as Emmanuel Sanders tore his Achilles during practice in December. There’s a chance that Sanders is released this offseason, which would leave Denver with second-year man Courtland Sutton and little else. In addition, new quarterback Joe Flacco already has a relationship with Crabtree.
1. Dallas Cowboys
This is simple. The Cowboys have a little bit of money, and while finances could get tight quickly depending on the DeMarcus Lawrence situation, Crabtree isn’t going to be expensive. Dallas desperately needs some talent on the outside opposite Amari Cooper, and the former Texas Tech star would be a great fit for that role.
