NFL free agency 2019: 5 names to watch

When March 11 rolls around, the football world will turn to NFL free agency. There are going to be the hot topics of conversation, ranging from Le’Veon Bell and Teddy Bridgewater to Ndamukong Suh and Earl Thomas.

For the purposes of this list, though, we’re looking at five names that aren’t going to headline the class. However, they could be nice additions for their new clubs.

5. Jared Cook

Cook turns 32 years old in April. Although he’s ageing, he’s one of the better tight ends in the league, coming off a career-year. Despite being stuck with the Oakland Raiders in 2018, he registered 68 catches for 896 yards and six touchdowns, all career highs. Cook isn’t going to be the top weapon in an elite attack. Although he could provide a nice secondary option and a quality red zone fixture. In a class without a ton of tight ends worth mentioning, Cook might cash in at a better rate than expected during NFL free agency.

4. Bryce Callahan

Callahan is coming off a broken leg that ended his season prematurely with the Chicago Bears, but he’s still going to get some nice value come March. At 27 years old, Callahan is one of the best slot corners in the league and he’s going to be paid handsomely for his troubles. The Bears have other guys they are going to have to pay both now and in the future, and so Callahan is likely to leave for a fat paycheck.

3. Tyrell Williams

Williams is a tough call. On one hand, he’s only 27 years old in February and he’s been a nice player for the Chargers over his rookie deal. He’s also been the second weapon at best for most of that contract, playing behind Keenan Allen in the offense. In 2016, Williams went over 1,000 yards but has declined since, totaling 728 and 653 yards over the last two years, respectively. Is Williams capable of being a top receiver in an offense? Probably not, but he could be a nice secondary option that doesn’t cost a ton.

2. Matt Paradis

This is one of the un-sexy moves that pays off in a major way. Paradis is coming off his rookie contract and while hip issues have to be concerting, he’s one of the best centers in the league. The Denver Broncos would love to hold onto him, but should he hit the market, expect Paradis to draw significant interest at center along with Mitch Morse.

1. C.J. Mosley

Mosley only flys under the radar because he’s an inside linebacker in a league that undervalues that position. The former Alabama star has been great for the Baltimore Ravens since joining them in 2014, racking up at least 105 tackles in four of his five seasons while providing a thumper in the run game. Whoever lands Mosley in NFL free agency is immediately upgraded in the middle of their defense.
