NFL MVP odds 2020: Top 5 favorites heading into season

Vegas has updated the 2020 NFL MVP Odds and predictably, it is a field dominated by quarterbacks. We examine the 5 favorites for NFL MVP.

5. Tom Brady (+1200)

A 43-year-old being this high on the MVP odds is unfathomable, yet here we are. Brady left the New England Patriots after 20 years in Foxborough with a chance to start fresh as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brady has ample weapons in tight end Rob Gronkowski and receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Of course, anybody taking these odds is hoping Brady can bounce back from a bad (by his standards) campaign in 2019.

4. Kyler Murray (+1000)

Last year, we saw a second-year quarterback smash all expectations in Lamar Jackson, earning his way to the MVP award in the Baltimore Ravens. Murray is now getting the juice, and it makes sense. The Arizona Cardinals loaded up on offensive talent in the last year, acquiring and then applying the franchise tag to running back Kenyan Drake and All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. To bet on Murray is to also believe in second-year head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

3. Russell Wilson (+900)

Wilson finished second in the race last year to Jackson, and it stands to reason he’ll be a strong competitor this time around. In the prime of his career, Wilson is surrounded by a quality supporting cast in Seattle. The offensive line is solid, and he has weapons all over in receivers D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, alongside tight end Greg Olsen and running back Chris Carson. The main concern is whether offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer will let him throw enough.

2. Lamar Jackson (+750)

To repeat as an MVP is rare, but Jackson certainly qualifies as a favorite. After rushing for more than 1,200 yards and accounting for 46 total touchdowns in 2019, Jackson has the NFL turned on its collective ear. The Ravens didn’t do much this offseason to bolster the unit around him, save for taking Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins in the second round of the draft in April. Jackson is a dominant force under center, and if he can stay healthy again, he’s a legitimate frontrunner.

1. Patrick Mahomes (+600)

Mahomes is the best player in football, at the game’s most important position. The Kansas City Chiefs are absurd offensively, with Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins and Mecole Hardman at receiver, tight end Travis Kelce and running backs Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Damien Williams. Combine the aforementioned talent with Mahomes’ skill set, and it’s easy to understand why No. 15 has the best NFL MVP odds — which would be his second in three years.
