NFL Week 2 bets: 5 games to take the favorite
5. Chicago Bears (-2)
This is a gamble, for sure. Look, the Bears stunk up the proverbial joint on Thursday night of Week 1, losing 10-3 at home to the Green Bay Packers. So why bet on them away from home against the Denver Broncos? A few reasons. For starters, the Bears have had 10 days to prepare for this game. Denver had only six after playing in Oakland on Monday night. Also, the Bears should completely stifle Denver’s offense, especially with a banged-up offensive line in front of Joe Flacco. This game will be ugly, but Chicago should win.
4. Cleveland Browns (-6.5)
Trevor Siemian is getting the start on Monday night against the Browns, with Sam Darnold battling mono. Siemian has played some good games in his NFL career, most-notably with the Broncos. However, Siemian is going to be up against an incredibly motivated and desperate Cleveland team, which was blown out by 30 points at home by the Tennessee Titans in Week 1. Sometimes, you have to look at a game and realize the bounce-back potential. This one has all the makings for the road team.
3. New England Patriots (-19)
This is an enormous line for a team at home, let alone on the road. That said, did you see the Patriots and Miami Dolphins in Week 1? The Dolphins surrendered more than 625 yards to the Baltimore Ravens. Go ahead and name the three receivers who get the most snaps in Baltimore. Good luck. Now, the Patriots come to town fresh off beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 33-3 in primetime. New England is trotting out Josh Gordon, Antonio Brown and Julian Edelman in this affair. The line still isn’t high enough. Should be 30 points. Not kidding.
2. Kansas City Chiefs (-7)
The Chiefs are without Tyreek Hill and could be san left tackle Eric Fisher, but the spread is still too juicy. Everyone is high on the Oakland Raiders after they handled Denver, but consider the following: Oakland was emotionally-charged to the hilt after the Antonio Brown fiasco. Plus, the Broncos have a very limited offense. The Chiefs, even without Hill, have a dynamic backfield, Travis Kelce, Sammy Watkins and a guy named Patrick Mahomes. Kansas City will score at will, and unless Derek Carr goes great guns, the Chiefs should cover.
1. Philadelphia Eagles (-2)
This was an easy pick. The Atlanta Falcons are talented, and a home opener in primetime means something. Still, they can’t block. They can’t penetrate up front. Philadelphia is going to dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Case closed.
