NFL Week 5 games: 5 best bets on underdogs
The NFL Week 5 games are on the sportsbooks, and it’s easy to see how these five underdogs could cover their spreads and perhaps win.
5. San Francisco 49ers (+5) at Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals are the better team and at home, but there’s a bit of uncertainty that could cause issues for Arizona. The 49ers won’t be starting Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback due to injury, allowing for first-round rookie and No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance to get his first start. Lance is a dynamic threat with his legs and has a huge arm. If he can make a few big plays, San Francisco has a chance to pull the upset in the desert.

4. New York Giants (+7) at Dallas Cowboys
The Giants re only 1-3, but they have some things pointing toward a cover here. New York has played solid defense al year, with only the Washington Football Team scoring at least 30 points. Additionally, quarterback Daniel Jones is finally taking care of the football, only having thrown one interception in four games. Finally, the Giants have been in one-score games each of the past three weeks. Look for a tight contest between two bitter NFC East rivals.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers (+1.5) vs. Denver Broncos
The Broncos are 3-1, but how good are they? So far, Denver beat the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants and New York Jets, who combine for a sterling record of 2-10. Last week, Â the Broncos faced their first true test in the Baltimore Ravens and lost 23-7 at home. Now they travel across the country to take on a desperate Steelers team that 1-3, Â is two games behind the other three AFC North participants. This is a huge game for Pittsburgh at home, and that means a tough out for Denver.

2. Washington Football Team (+2.5) vs. New Orleans Saints
Why are the Football Team laying points here? Washington is at home and both teams are 2-2. Furthermore, the Saints have had almost no offense to speak of, especially in the passing game. If New Orleans can’t get the aerial attack on track, Washington has a good chance to not only cover but improve to 3-2 before hosting the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6.
1. Chicago Bears (+5.5) at Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders are the better team, but the Bears looked different last week with quarterback Justin Fields under center. Fields wasn’t incredible, but he created some chunk plays and gave Chicago’s offense new life. If the defense can make. life tough for Raiders quarterback Derek Carr with pressure, this should be a close game into the fourth quarter. The Bears have enough talent to cover in Sin City and threaten an upset.
