Patriots QB Cam Newton admits he needs to improve to earn starting job
The New England Patriots are ushering in a new era in 2020. The team has officially moved on from six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, who signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. To replace him, it has brought in former NFL MVP Cam Newton to be his successor.
Newton seems like the ideal fit in New England and at a sizable discount. However the veteran quarterback doesn’t feel like he’s earned the starting job with the Patriots. He recently spoke about his mindset to reporters about his situation and admitted he’s got a lot to learn in his new surroundings, via ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

“Absolutely not. Every day is a workday for me. That label is not important to me right now,” Newton told reporters. “I have so much I need to get better at, so much I need to learn, so much I need to be comfortable with. Throughout this process, that’s the last thing that I’m pretty much worried about.”
If mindset was a question mark for the Patriots before signing Newton, he seems to be well on his way to put their minds at ease in New England. Newton is clearly out to prove his worth and show why he was once named NFL MVP.

“I hold myself accountable more than anything else. I go by a code and stick to the code — if you say something to somebody, you better make sure you’re holding yourself in check as well. That’s what I’m trying to do,” he said.
Only time will tell if the Cam experiment works out in New England, but one thing seems for certain moving forward, he’s off to a good start and hasn’t made waves as he tries to replace arguably the greatest quarterback in NFL history.
