Seahawks are ‘still considering’ trading DE Frank Clark
In the weeks that have followed the Seattle Seahawks’ decision to place the franchise tag on defensive end Frank Clark, there has been uncertainty about his long-term future with the franchise.
Things could quickly pick up on that end this offseason as Clark is drawing trade interest around the league. According to ESPN, the Seahawks are reportedly looking to acquire at least a first-round pick in this year’s draft.
The Seattle Seahawks are still considering trading defensive end Frank Clark, a league source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Saturday.
In return, the Seahawks would want any package to include at least a first-round pick in next week’s NFL draft, the source said.
Clark has yet to sign the $17.1 million franchise tender for the 2019 season, which has clouded up the situation. He put together a strong 2018 campaign where he led the team with 13.0 sacks, four forced fumbles, and an interception. Clark proved to be a key part of the defense, helping the Seahawks push forward toward getting back into the playoffs.
In fact, his 33.0 sacks since 2016 are currently ninth in the league. Among the 21 players with at least 25 sacks in the last three years, Clark’s average of a sack on every 63.9 defensive snaps is currently seventh best in the league.
However, there doesn’t appear to be any clarity on the front with both sides working out a long-term deal. This has pushed forward the dialogue of a possible trade with a few teams such as the New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts, and Kansas City Chiefs.
