Three Most Dire Positions that Need to be Filled in the MLB
A handful of teams made it evident during the season that they lack necessary talent at certain positions. Others have already began to lose players or are in a position where they could lose key players to free agency. Here are the three team that are in the most need of filling potentially vacant or lacking positions.
Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox will be defending their World Series pennant next season. Â They would love nothing more that to make another trip to the World Series. However, they have two positions they need to fill.
First, they need to figure out what they are going to do at the catcher positions. Second, they need to find a way to keep Mike Napoli out of the free agency. Napoli was a huge factor to the Red Sox success this past season, ranking second on his team in both home runs and RBI. If the Red Sox lose him it will undoudedtly have a negative impact esspecially considering their are no real power hitters on the market that could replace him.
New York Yankees
The New York Yankees want to find a way to compete at a high level again. The Robinson Cano decision is pulling all the headlines but more important is that the Yankees figure out what they are going to do about their pitching staff. They only have two pitchers from last years rotation under contract, CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova. Pitchers win and lose games. If they hope to make a return to the top of the AL East next season that needs to be their priority.
Cleveland Indians
The Cleveland Indians were one of the biggest suprises last season. They did not make it out of the Wild Card but for a team who had their talent in constant question all year and no big expectations from sports analysts going into the season long that is a pretty good accomplishment.
The Indians are going to want to improve. Â However, their bullpen has shrunk. They released closer Chris Perez and Joe Smith is heading to the free agency. The Indians will need to add a couple of reliable arms to the bullpen in particularly a close over the offseason.
