NFL power rankings, Week 2: Cowboys fall in NFC
With the loss of quarterback Dak Prescott to a broken thumb, the Dallas Cowboys fell badly in our NFL power rankings for the NFC.
16. Atlanta Falcons (LW:16)
New season, same Falcons. Nobody blows double-digit leads like Atlanta.
15. Seattle Seahawks (LW:15)
The Seahawks are in for a long year, mostly because they are in a rebuild geared towards 2023. They’ll bounce back soon enough.
14. Chicago Bears (LW:14)
The Bears won and should be commended for beating a talented Niners team, but the game was also in a monsoon, so it’s tough to evaluate.
13. Carolina Panthers (LW:12)
Carolina has to be physically sick after losing at the last second to the Browns. Now the Panthers have to rebound in the Meadowlands against the Giants.
12. Detroit Lions (LW:11)
The Lions lost, but they should feel good. Scoring 35 points against a good defense in Philadelphia is a step. Detroit is getting there.

11. Dallas Cowboys (LW:5)
Without Dak Prescott, goodnight.
10. New York Giants (LW:13)
The Giants have to be feeling like there’s a new ray of hope in New York, and his name is Brian Daboll. Great win.
9. Arizona Cardinals (LW:9)
Arizona is certainly thrilled the Chiefs are out of town. That was a pounding of epic proportions.
8. Washington Commanders (LW:10)
Washington got a terrific four-touchdown performance out of Carson Wentz. That keeps up, the Commanders could be fun.

7. San Francisco 49ers (LW:4)
Rain or shine, the Niners have to put forth a better showing. Ugly.
6. New Orleans Saints (LW:7)
New Orleans was far from impressive for 45 minutes, but the Saints rallied in the fourth quarter to pull off a stunning comeback.
5. Minnesota Vikings (LW:8)
The Vikings hammered the Packers on both sides of the ball, signaling the North could be up for grabs.
4. Philadelphia Eagles (LW:6)
Philadelphia loaded up this offseason with a host of additions on both sides of the ball, and the early returns are a much-improved team.
3. Los Angeles Rams (LW:3)
The Rams are undoubtedly happy they aren’t playing the Bills again this season. Up next? The Falcons. Bit of a difference.
2. Green Bay Packers (LW:1)
Aaron Rodgers can’t be happy. The Packers couldn’t do much for the 60 minutes in Minnesota.
1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (LW:2)
The Buccaneers allowed three points, shutting down the Cowboys on national television.
