Alshon Jeffery Takes Blame for Letting His Teammates Down
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey took the blame for his team’s loss in the NFC divisional round on Sunday to the New Orleans Saints. A pass slipped through his hands and into those of New Orleans defensive back Marshon Lattimore for an interception. It was this play late in the game that helped seal the Saints win 20-14.
Jeffery told reporters following the game the loss was on him and that he let teammates and the city of Philadelphia down.
The Eagles gained new life when New Orleans kicker Will Lutz missed a late field goal from 51 yards out and took possession at their own 41-yard line with 2:58 left to play and down by six.

The Eagles moved into the red zone of the Eagles following a completion by Nick Foles to Zach Ertz and a personal foul on the Saints defense for roughing the passer.
However, on second down and 10, a short pass from Foles to Jeffery on a curl-in pattern slipped through his hands and into the grasp of Lattimore.
Following the play, Jeffery lay on the field face down for a moment prior to heading to his sidelines where he then watched the Saints earn a game-winning first down and run out the clock for the win.
Teammates consoled Jeffery telling the wide receiver last year’s Super Bowl run and this season’s late surge would not have been possible without him.

Tight end Ertz said Jeffery is one of the team’s best players and the team would not have been in a situation to win without him. Ertz added that Jeffery was one of the best receivers in the NFL.
It was the third time all season that Jeffery has dropped a pass.
Eagles’ offensive tackle Lane Johnson said Jeffery has played this season through broken ribs and last season played with an injured rotator cuff.
Philadelphia jumped ahead 14-0 early in the first quarter with a pair of touchdowns on the team’s first two possessions, but did not score the rest of the game as the Saints scored 20 unanswered points.
