Eagles’ Miles Sanders believes he’s the team’s lead back

The Philadelphia Eagles are hoping to build off their trip to the playoffs last season, with it’s eyes fixated on putting forth a strong 2020 campaign.

One of the areas that the team will look for improvement is in the running game. Hope is provided by running back Miles Sanders, who showed flashes of promise in his rookie year. Sanders has fully embraced the opportunity to potentially take up the leading rusher role this upcoming, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

“I believe that’s why they drafted me in the first place,” Sanders said. “It was really just a switch that turned. All of a sudden, I was a starting running back, and I didn’t start at the beginning of the season. I just looked at the opportunity and attacked it.”

The Eagles have made it clear this offseason that they are committed to Sanders. He will at least play a significant role in the backfield. The team elected to trade Jordan Howard to the Miami Dolphins. This opens up a chance for him to secure a more substantial part.

Sanders will be competing with Corey Clement and Boston Scott for playing time, which should play out to him showcasing he can be their primary running back. He displayed the ability to be a dual-threat option as he rushed for 818 yards along with 50 catches for 509 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

That included his first 100-yard rushing game with 122 yards against the Washington Redskins. All that points to Sanders potentially grabbing ahold of the lead back role before the 2020 campaign.
