NFL Source: Russell Wilson and Seahawks Reach Deal
An NFL source has said that the Seattle Seahawks and quarterback Russell Wilson have agreed to an extension. Wilson has signed a contract of four years for $140 million. The new deal will make the Seahawks signal caller the highest paid player in the NFL.
Wilson, who is 30, will be contractually tied to Seattle until the end of the 2023 season.
The deal passes Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers for the highest annual salary of $35 million a season. Additionally, the signing bonus received by Russell Wilson set a new mark. Rodgers has an annual average salary of $33.5 million. He also received a $57.5 million signing bonus with the extension the Packers QB signed in 2018.

In addition, a no-trade clause is included in Wilson’s deal. Wilson, without disclosing any specifics about the extension, said in a video he posted on Twitter that he reached a deal 45 minutes after the midnight deadline had passed that he set for reaching an extension.
The deal took four days to reach in negotiations between the Seahawks and Mark Rodgers, who represents Wilson.

The extension keeps the five-time Pro Bowler with the Seahawks for at least another four seasons and avoids the team placing a franchise tag on their quarterback which likely would have meant Wilson in the end would leave for another team.
Despite there being uncertainty related to his contract negotiations, Seattle’s star quarterback was at the start of the voluntary offseason program for the team on Monday while his agent Rodgers continued negotiations with the team.
With Wilson’s extension now behind them, the Seahawks will be able to focus on possible extensions for linebacker Bobby Wagner and the team’s best pass rusher Frank Clark.
