5 bold predictions for the NFL Week 10 slate

NFL Week 10 throws up some pivotal matchups, particularly in the NFC. We forecast 5 of the most crucial games in NFL Week 10.

5. Bengals fans miss Andy Dalton by halftime

While the Bengals are coming off their bye week, this is a brutal time to insert rookie quarterback Ryan Finley into the fray. Cincinnati is taking on the Baltimore Ravens, the same Ravens who just pummeled the previously unbeaten New England Patriots. Additionally, this is a secondary with Marlon Humphrey, Marcus Peters, Earl Thomas and Jimmy Smith. Good luck.

4. The Bears finally snap their losing streak

The Chicago Bears haven’t won a game since beating the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4. For those counting, it’s now Week 10. Chicago’s defense has been spotty by its standards, but Mitchell Trubisky and the offense have been downright rancid. With the Detroit Lions coming to town, the Bears know another loss basically eliminates them from playoff contention. It’s also a familiar opponent at home. Trubisky won’t be great, but he’ll be better against an annual foe, and it’ll be enough.

3. Patrick Mahomes will throw for more than 400 yards

Mahomes is playing for the first time since dislocating his kneecap against the Denver Broncos in Week 7. The lucky opponent this weekend? The Tennessee Titans. Tennessee is riddled with injures on defense, including tackle Jurrell Casey, corner Malcolm Butler and linebacker Jayon Brown. Without that trio, Mahomes should have a field day throwing to Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Sammy Watkins and Mecole Hardman.

2. At least 12 fans are left in MetLife Stadium for the Jets-Giants final play

This might be my boldest prediction. Can you imagine sitting in the November weather of northern New Jersey to watch the New York Giants and New York Jets try to play football correctly? Both teams are horrendous, with the Jets being 1-7 and the Giants 2-6. It’s bad, bad entertainment, and yet at least a dozen people with no self-respect whatsoever will sit there for all four quarters. Once the beer sales stop — end of the third — look for there to be a mass exodus onto Route 17.

1. The Dolphins lead at some point in the fourth quarter vs. Colts

This isn’t all that bold, although people will be stunned to actually read it in print. The Dolphins have been getting progressively better over the past month, finally winning their first game on Sunday with a victory over the Jets. Now they travel to take on the banged-up Colts in Indy. Yes, the Colts should win the game, but Miami is going to hang tough behind quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Indianapolis is 5-3, and every game it has played has been within a score. This won’t be any different.
