Steph Curry Haters are ‘Bitter’ – Matt Barnes

Steph Curry is one of the greatest players to grace the NBA. However, the three-time champion and two-time MVP is far from one of the most popular.

For Steph Curry, the “hate” will be a normal part of becoming hugely successful. He is regarded as the best shooter to ever play the game. Naturally, that invites scrutiny and jealousy.

Why doesn’t Steph Curry get the recognition he deserves from the media and his fellow professionals? According to one former teammate, it’s as a result of people being bitter.

It’s something that Andre Iguodala touched on during the NBA Finals. The Warriors veteran said that he will “do whatever it takes” to protect Curry’s legacy.

Former Warrior Matt Barnes spoke about Curry on ESPN’s “The Jump” on Thursday.

“I think, he came in, he’s the golden boy,” Barnes said.

“He came in and destroyed record books, won championships, beat LeBron — he’s done a lot of things that probably angered other players and other fans. That’s why I don’t think he gets the respect he deserves.

“He’s obviously the greatest shooter to ever play the game and I can see people being bitter from that. Not to mention the whole light skinned thing, and people have problems with that. Like I said, he’s a perfect example of what the NBA needs to be represented as and people don’t like that either. Most of the time when people are so good or something’s so perfect, people don’t like that and that’s exactly what you get with Steph.”

Curry’s struggle is one of all top level athletes across all elite sports. In soccer, the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are as reviled as they are worshipped. All Curry can do now is to maximise his talent to ensure that said talent is all people remember when he retires.
